Journey into my animal art

A year filled with all things Animal Art!

2023 has proven to be a really exciting year in my art studio. I’ve had the pleasure of creating such a wide range of different animal art pieces that I’ve been really proud of. From the hugely challenging elephant art drawing “The Elephant Charge”, to the heartwarming pet portraits of beloved family companions, it’s been a journey of both artistic growth and huge fulfilment.

Colored Pencil Magazine Article

Culminating the year in perfect style, I was selected to be the featured artist in the renowned Colored Pencil Magazine. The American magazine is a prominent publication for artists not just in America but across the world. The magazine has been a source of inspiration for me for many years, and I love seeing the spectacular array of creations made by artists across the globe. I was very honoured therefore to have been chosen for their front cover and feature article, and to have my animal art showcased amongst my peers.  My grizzly bear drawing “Peekaboo” is wonderfully showcased on the front cover of the magazine, and inside a 6-page spread shines the spotlight on a curated selection of my dog portraits, cat portraits and wildlife art.

The article followed my artistic journey from early inspiration as a child, to switching careers in my early 30s and becoming a full-time professional animal artist. It delves into my passion for creating pet portraits, as well as my love for capturing the untamed beauty of nature through my wildlife art. The article also talks about some of the challenges I faced along the way, the materials that fuel my creativity, and how I’m working to use my wildlife art to support wildlife conservation projects.

More animal art to come in 2024!

As this year draws to a close, I’ve been busy planning my art projects for 2024…and it’s a quite long list!! I have plenty more wildlife art paintings planned out, including at least two new tiger paintings, some more elephant art, plus a plethora of gorgeous pet portraits to get stuck into. And of course, a few surprises thrown in! I’m trying to challenge myself further with each piece, experimenting with different materials (I now regularly use gouache and coloured pencils alongside my main medium of choice – pastels) and finding new ways of working to really bring my animal art to life.

All in all, it’s going to be a busy one. Just how I like it! You can stay up to date with my latest artwork by signing up to my mailing list.
